This sock is a ladies Ankle sock (with "french heel and flat toe") from Patons and Baldwin's Woolcraft, 13th edition, knit from Beehive 3-ply scotch fingering yarn. It was purchased in the England for 9 pence during the second world war, when short socks were especially popular due to wool rationing.
